Deception always leads to destruction. You have to praise and connect with God through Right View (the correct way), not through rite and ritual or only when it is convenient. You have to practice faith in God throughout the 4 "seasons," not just do whatever your ego pleases and only praise/pray to God when you need help/suffer. No one likes that; when you honor God throughout your journey, you will see miracles on your journey especially when you look back. However, with this case, stay away from collective sin and surround yourself with the righteous to avoid receiving chastisement with them. Love God, truth, and God's light of truth.
